The World Health Organization reports that depression is the leading cause of disability world wide, and primary care doctors are on the front line. Most family doctors say they have not been adequately trained to manage patients with psychiatric disorders, and, especially those in rural areas, don't have ready access to psychiatry consultation. One of the faculty speakers presenting at this conference has made it one of his professional goals to enhance the training of family physicians (and other primary care providers such as PAs, NPs, and general internists. This program promises to help learn techniques for making the diagnosis easier and quicker during a 20 minute office visit.
