In the last 10 years, hospitalists have become much more prevalent in the care of inpatients and the Society of Hospital Medicine estimates that there are between 10,000 and 12,000 practicing hospitalists in the United States. There are a number of skills and procedures with which a hospitalist must be familiar, and may not be comfortable performing, especially if they are coming from an outpatient practice.

This course is an excellent refresher course for experienced physicians, residents and midlevel practitioners. In a small group setting, individuals will learn about the techniques of various procedures, including the use of the sonogram in these procedures. In addition to the hands-on practice and lectures, the participants will be given examples of tools and order sets, and key articles will be provided for reference.

The participants will be given a DVD-rom of all the lectures and many of the videos used in the course for future reference. They will also be given links and resources for further education.
